From the 13-th till 15-th December the Swiss-Ukrainian Milk Safety Project held a technical workshop on the preparation of representatives of the SSFSCP on the basic principles of risk assessment in the sphere of ‚Äč‚Äčanimal and human health, and food safety. The seminar was attended by representatives of the core group of risk assessment team (veterinarians, epidemiologists, laboratory specialists), experts of the SSFSCP of the central and regional levels of pilot oblasts, State Research Institute for Laboratory Diagnostics and Veterinary and Sanitary Expertise and other interested specialists.

During the workshop the participants got acquainted with the new concept of risk assessment, in particular the assessment of microbiological risks and modern tools for risk assessment.

Participants had the opportunity to test the theoretical knowledge in practice, because the main part of the workshop was devoted to conducting a real qualitative assessment of the risk of enterotoxins of staphylococcus aureus in pasteurized milk, taking into account the risk pathway and analysis of the results of the process of elitisation (synthesis of expert opinions). Participants also reviewed the difference between risk assessment and risk management processes and considered an example of risk analysis systems in the EU and other countries. After completing the risk assessment, there was the discussion of possible solutions for managing the risks identified at each stage of the risk pathway. The next step will be the preparation of the report on the results of the risk assessment.
