Training for specialists of territorial bodies of the state service of ukraine on food safety and consumer protection was held in Poltava oblast

On 3 – 5 October the Swiss-Ukrainian Milk Safety Project held the training for the specialists of territorial bodies and the Main Directorate of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection in Poltava oblast.

The training had 2 objectives: to raise awareness about the importance of applying best practices for the production of safe milk and use of a modern inspection approach at all stages of dairy value chain. About 40 participants took part in the training.

During the theoretical part of the training the trainers from the Main Directorate of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection in Poltava oblast prepared by the Project presented district specialists the topics related to best practices of ensuring proper animal welfare and management, feeding and milking hygiene.

The Project experts covered the issues related to the changes in the food safety control system, new approaches to inspection, and use of checklists. The next day at the premises of milk farm of Bilagro LLC (Kolosiivka village, Velyka Bagachka district, Poltava oblast) the training participants had an opportunity to see practical application of best practices and positive results of their application as well as use of developed checklists for inspection. The same day the group visited a family farm of the Zhvanko family in Sukhorabivka village Reshetyliv district which has 20 dairy cows. Owner Ruslan told about peculiarities of managing, feeding and milking cows and showed some best practices. As a conclusion of the practical visit, inspectors also practiced using the developed checklists for inspection of milk collection points at the premises of Molochnyi Svitanok Agricultural Cooperative. After a practical visit, the participants discussed the results of inspections of both facilities as well as provided recommendations for draft checklists.
