Milk Safety Project
Training for medium milk producers in Kharkiv oblast
- raising awareness of hazards in the production of milk and critical points on the farm;
- A clear understanding of the principles of HACCP (system of analysis of hazards and control at critical points);
- The importance of applying best management farming practices and ensuring the health and welfare of animals with a focus on reducing the use of antibiotics. Coordinator of Component 3 Iryna Vysotska also presented the participants the Concept of the pilot project "Control Program of Raw Milk" and the software application "Dairy Module". The next block of the theoretical part was devoted to the management of hazards in production and storage of raw milk, as already required by the new food law, in particular Article 40 of the Law of Ukraine "On Basic Principles and Requirements for Safety and Quality of Food Products ". The consultant Igor Prysyazhnyuk in his speeches emphasized the importance of proper records keeping, which is an important prerequisite for ensuring traceability. Valery Lototsky focused on the topic "Decreasing of the somatic cells count in milk - how to optimize the mastitis control program on the farm?". The theoretical part of the training ended with the discussion of the importance of reducing the use of antibiotics, in particular through the ensuring animals welfare. Participants had the opportunity to increase their knowledge during an educational visit to farm "Agrotechservice", Vasylenkove village, Shevchenkivskyi rayon, Kharkiv oblast. The team of farm specialists briefed the training participants on the results of the farm work, and the Project’s trainers conducted practical training on traceability and target indicators of animals keeping for ensuring udder health and animals welfare in general. The Project team expresses its gratitude to the management and the entire team of farm "Agrotechservice" for the opportunity to get acquainted with the best practices of milk production in Ukraine and the willingness to share their experience and knowledge.
